FAQs

Coffee Beans

Essentially, all roasted coffee originates from a roaster, whether that roaster is a large international multi-brand business or a small-batch local roaster. The difference from buying direct from the roaster versus from the supermarket is basically, control. Supermarkets these days are well equipped to source good coffees, single origins and beans, however their buying processes can increase the time before it gets to the consumer. A local roaster adapts its production based on demand and is 100% committed to producing quality, consistency and fresh roasted coffee. "Fresh" meaning it was roasted prior to consumption and it has been through the degassing process, which is an essential process to release CO2 from the beans. We'd like to bust-a-myth - not all direct-from-the-roaster coffees are more expensive! We are on par with the supermarket prices, and we can guarantee both great quality and freshness delivered directly to your door

Coffee does degrade over time and it degrades faster depending on the surface area - which means that the whole beans will keep longer than ground coffee. The best way to store these beans is to place them in an air-tight container. You should grind fresh only the amount you plan to use that day to avoid unnecessary exposure. Storing coffee in this way will keep out moisture and other contaminants.

Your coffees' greatest enemies are air, moisture, heat, and light. To preserve your beans; freshly roasted flavor as long as possible, store them in an opaque, airtight container and keep them in a cool, dark location, away from the stove or other heat sources, even countertop areas where sunlight can reach. Although coffee beans can be interesting and beautiful to show, avoid clear canisters that allow light to compromise the taste of your coffee.

NOTE: Do not place them in the refrigerator or freezer because these places have a high moisture content, making it a very humid environment, and can expose them to dampness and smells from other foods. If placed in the freezer the moisture molecules in the coffee beans will freeze and expand, causing tiny hairline fractures in the bean's structure, this will do the opposite of preserving your coffee making it taste bad in the process."

We source the best beans from the best coffee producers around the world, and we roast them fresh to order. We frequently pay well above Fair Trade prices to support coffee farmers using sustainable and ethical practices.

We always recommend that you buy whole bean coffee. Your coffee will be much fresher and taste much better if you grind it at home. However, if you're not ready to grind your own beans quite yet, then we are happy to freshly grind your coffee for you. You can select a grind during the checkout process.

Dried coffee, if stored properly, can last for months and even years.

Our decaf coffee is decaffeinated using the Swiss Water® Process. This is a clean decaffeinating method which uses 100% green coffee extract and carbon to filter the caffeine out. This method ensures only caffeine is removed to keep the original quality of the beans intact.
